Saturday saw the 1st XI hosting Penwortham CC 2nd XI at School Lane. It was a toss to win as both sides wanted to bat, however BCC won the toss and the decision was made. Opening batsman, Captain David Atherton (36) and Ryan Hughes (33) dug deep on a surprisingly tough wicket to get 46-0 at the first drinks break. After a quick hydration break, the pair accelerated to 77 before the first wicket fell. Contributions from the rest of the team meant that the 1s reached a total of 141/9 from their 45 overs. Unfortunately falling slightly short of the aspired target, however giving them a fighting chance to defend with the ball.

Overseas wonder Carter Woodgate and last weeks MOTM Luke Murray opened the bowling, showing controlled aggression and their ability to capitalise with the new ball. Early break through saw Penwortham very quickly in a tricky position 4 wickets down for 10 runs. Woodgate finished 3/22 from 7 overs whilst Murray 2/21 from 7 overs. Penworthams number 5 and 7 batsman dug in against the BCC bowling attack and seemed to to forge a potentially troubling parternship. The change of bowling to the left hand attack of Jay Davies and Josh Murray. Josh Murray had a superb spell. From his 5 overs, he took 4 wickets, including a triple wicket maiden for only 14 runs. A truly devastating game ending spell. Jay Davies took the final wicket of the game bowling the last batsman round the back of his legs, finishing his spell 1/14 from 5.4 overs.

That now makes it three in a row for the 1 heading into the second half of the season. They currently sit in 5th, trailing 4th by only 1 point. Next weekend they travel to Stanley Park to face off against Blackpool CC 2nd XI.

On a sweltering afternoon, the 2nd XI travelled to Penwortham Priory Academy School to face Penwortham 5th XI.
2s skipper Anthony Dever won the toss and elected to field on the school playing field, with its astroturf wicket, which as it transpired offered little assistance to the bowlers.
